Oakley

Sunglasses for sport and leisure

There’s clearly only one choice for sports eyewear and it has to be Oakley.

Oakley are the first choice for safety, style and vision.

Oakley – where it all began

First a short history of how Oakley came into existence and where the brand’s vision came from.

Oakley was founded in 1975 by a college dropout called James Jannard, who noticed that when motocross riders got wet, they struggled to twist the grip on the accelerator properly. So he set about to create a new rubber compound to solve this issue. What he created was a rubber that when wet would become sticky, which would improve grip for the riders. This rubber he called Unobtainium and is used on Oakley products including the eye wear range to this day.

Oakley Lenses and Frames are the best for sport

You may ask why Oakley are more expensive than other sports eye wear available on the market. Well, there is a few reasons for that.

Oakley frames simply put are very robust, they will flex on impact rather than breaking in the event of a fall or other impact. They have unobtainium on the temples and nose bridge so as you perspire they stick to your head better than other sportswear, giving a more comfortable and secure fit.

Oakley lenses give you better vision than competitors. When you curve a lens it essentially distorts your vision. This means poor quality sports lenses can make your vision worse, especially when looking to the sides of the lens. Now Oakley use digital true vision-  better technology to produce the lens, giving you the best possible vision even at the edges of the lens, making your vision more comfortable and natural.

Oakley lenses keep your eyes safe. Firstly they all give 100% of UV protection and have a blue light blocking element built into the lens. This will protect your eyes from harmful UV rays from the sun, but again Oakley go that litte bit further. With a cheaper product they only dip the lens in UV dye, this means that as the lens wears any scratches and scuffs remove that protection. With Oakley it is built within the lens meaning the only way UV will get through is if you drill a hole through the lens. The second way they protect you is that the lenses are tough enough to absorb serious impact, this could be a stone being thrown up by a passing car. Oakley lenses are tested to rigorous US industrial standards as you can see in the video below.

Why choose Oakley?

In this video we look at the rigourous testing that each pair of Oakleys has to go through.

Oakley Prizm

Then came the game changer With Oakley Prizm launching, For my money the best sports lenses available on the market. Oakley achieved this by taking a spectral camera to certain environments and sporting activities. This basically measures the amount of light in strength and colour. They used this information to create lenses that help glare whilst making colour and contrast vibrant. Where a traditional lens would just make what your looking at darker. Oakley lenses will help you pick out important details from undulations in snow and the golf green, to roots and pot holes whilst cycling.
