Ray-Ban
Iconic sunglasses are a declaration of belonging, style and attitude.Ray-Ban – from where it all began
In 1929 the US army Air Corps was working with New York eye health manufacturer Bausch & Lomb to create sunglasses that would reduce the intense blue and white hues of the bright sky. Pilots were reporting headaches and altitude sickness for the glare of the sky. The prototype originally had green lenses and a plastic frame and were known as ‘anti-glare’. In the late thirties, after a redesign with a metal frame these anti-fog anti-glare sunglasses were also impact resistant. The new antiglare sunglasses ‘banned’ the distracting rays from the US Aviators’ eyes and the name Ray-Ban was born along with the now iconic Aviator style.

Ray-Ban Polarised
Many of the Ray-Ban range of sunglasses are available polarised – look for the ‘p’ in the corner of the lens! Polarised sunglasses offer a world of heightened clarity and colours. Polarised lenses eliminate glare, increase visual clarity, reduce eye strain and enhance contrast.
Iconic Aviators – from MacArthur to Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise in Top Gun famously wore Aviators, not that dissimilar to the pair worn by General Douglas MacArthur as he landed on a Philippines beach in 1942. Robert De Niro wore a square pair of Ray-Ban Caravans in the movie Taxi Driver. From the fifties onwards such was the link between Ray-Ban and Hollywood that nearly every major movie celebrity wore Ray-Ban and naturally the brand showed up in loads of movies.
